591 cases to be disposed off in Lok Adalat in Dhubri

DHUBRI: Chairman of Dhubri District Legal Services Authority, Thaneshwar Kalita, in a press meet held in the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner's conference hall on Friday, informed that a total of 591 cases of 21 courts would be taken up in the Lok Adalat on September 11.

A one-day Lok Adalat will be held from 10 AM to 5 PM in the court premises. In the meantime, a list of cases to be taken up has been completed and notices to parties have been served who have to attend the designated court on that day, Kalita said.

Kalita further said that out of total 591 cases, 143 cases were of accidents and 56 land acquisition, besides other cases. Moreover, 1,035 cases related to non-payment of bank loans would also be taken up, Kalita further informed. "The non-payment of bank loan cases will be disposed off in the Lok Adalat with prior discussion with defaulter and bank officials," Kalita said.

He said that in view of the pandemic, 40 per cent cases would be disposed off through virtual mode and those who do not have smartphone could take the help of Gaon Panchayat, while 30 per cent cases would be disposed off wherein persons have to appear in the court physically observing all COVID-19 protocols.

Kalita and secretary of Dhubri District Legal Services Authority, Gypsy Deb appealed to the parties to avail the opportunity to settle the cases pending in the courts for years in one go.
