SILCHAR: Following the order of the Chief Minister of Assam, the Cachar district administration has taken the necessary steps towards the support of the Manipuri families who have entered the state of Assam seeking refuge from the violence in their own state.

According to the local reports, a large number of people moved into the Southern part of Assam since the problems started on Wednesday as the two states share a border in the region. As many as six shelter homes have been set up in schools and community halls in the Lakhipur constituency of the Cacher district by the state administration. These steps were taken as soon as the chief minister of Assam ordered the district administration to provide these people with the necessary resources.

The Superintendent of Police for the Cachar district, Numal Mahatta mentioned that steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the people of Manipur who came to Assam in fear of their lives. Necessary steps have also been taken to ensure that they get access to all necessary resources.

More than 1100 Manipuris have taken shelter in these camps set up by the district administration. The authorities have also kept a keen eye on any rumour that might be created and propagated by the miscreants and threatened to take all necessary action against such people. The people who have taken refuge in these camps also expressed their gratitude to the administration and the chief minister for making the necessary arrangements. They also mentioned that they felt much safer in the camps and that all essential items had been provided and hoped that the situation in their home state returns to normal again as soon as possible.

Although the Indian Army had made claims that the situation is under control, the ground reality continues to be different with the Imphal Tax Assitant being killed by rioters in the capital city.
