6th biennial session of AACSU from January 27 next year in Lakhimpur district

The 6th biennial session of the All Assam Chutia Students' Union (AACSU) will be held in Lakhimpur district from January 27 to January 30 next year.

LAKHIMPUR: The 6th biennial session of the All Assam Chutia Students' Union (AACSU) will be held in Lakhimpur district from January 27 to January 30 next year. The four-day-long event will be hosted under the auspices of the Lakhimpur district unit of AACSU, in association with Boginadi regional committee and the people of the district, at Lakshminarayan Kshetra at Boginadi in the district.

This was declared by AACSU general secretary Mahen Borah at a press meet convened at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday. "The event will be a crucial one for our organization as well as our native community. A number of resolutions over various issues of the community, like the struggle for the granting of tribal status and autonomous council along with other problems of the community will be taken in the event. The event will also attempt to bring an awareness among the community people to safeguard our rights and to force the government in order to resolve the long-pending issues of the community," Mahen Borah added in the press meet wherein AACSU vice-president RajuChutia, assistant general secretary Raj BahoiChutia, and other leaders were present.

In the press meet, Mahen Borah informed that an organizing committee had already been formed with Munin Saikia as president, Lakhi Chutia and Khireswar Chutia as working presidents and Jayanta Hazarika and Raju Chutia as general secretaries in order to conduct the event smoothly.

"Around 21 sub-committees have also been formed in order to help the organizing committee and the due preparation is underway at present. The laikhuta of the event venue will be erected on December 9. In the open session of the event, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State Agriculture Minister Atul Borah will be present along with a galaxy of intellectual personalities, journalists and organizational dignitaries of the State. Moreover, various State-level competitions, like debate, quiz, drawing competition, will also be held among the students. Book fair, trade fair and agro fair are also scheduled in the agenda of the event," Borah added.

In the same press meet, the organization expressed resentment over the non-functioning state of the Chutia Development Council. In this connection, Mahen Borah demanded the State Government to release the fund amounting to Rs. 125 crore to the Chutia Development Council at earliest for the welfare of the Chutia community people as it was declared.
