72 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC kick-off Independent-Day celebration

LAKHIMPUR: Commemorating the sacrifices of valiant freedom fighters who stood up against the British and even suffered harsh consequences unflinchingly, all the ranks of 72 Assam Girls (Independent) Coy NCC, North Lakhimpur, on behalf of Officer Commanding Colonel Jasbir Singh Cheema, and all colleges and schools spread over the districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji are celebrating Independence Day with a three-day long agenda from Thursday. The first day programme of the event on Thursday was celebrated online through Google Meet due to the COVID-19 social distancing norms.

Padma Shri Dr Udhab Bharali took part in the programme as chief guest and addressed the cadets of 72 Assam Girls (I) Coy NCC through Google Meet. The event was attended by all staff of the unit, along with NCC Officers Kalyani Knowar, Dipali Neog, and Rajumoni Gogoi, Hav Johny, NK Subash, cadets of Dhemaji College, Dhemaji Girls' College, Lakhimpur Girls' College, LTK College, Azad, Laluk HS School and anchored by Girl Cadet Instructor Sangita. The celebration started with welcoming the chief guest by NCC cadet pilots to the flag hosting area. Then the chief guest kicked off the entire programme by hoisting the tricolour at the unit office premises. The online programme started with the introduction of chief guest and cultural programme performed by the cadets. Later, the chief guest addressed the cadets and spoke about the relevance of independence in today's context. It was followed by a vote of thanks by NCC Officer Kalyani Konwar. As mark of honour, a memento was presented to Dr Udhab Bharali on behalf of the unit. The programme concluded with the singing of the national anthem by all.
