77th Independence Day celebrated in Lakhimpur with colourful programmes

LAKHIMPUR: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated across Lakhimpur district on Tuesday along with the rest of the nation. The programmes, organized on this occasion by Lakhimpur district administration, kicked off with patriotic songs of presented by District Information and Public Relation Office through Fixed loudspeaker System in the early morning. Then National Flag was hoisted in the public residences, governmental, non-governmental and academic institutions across the district.

The central programme organized by the district administration on the occasion was held at North Lakhimpur Government HS School playground. Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology Affairs Minister Keshab Mahanta participated in the event as chief guest. After paying floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan, the minister hoisted the National Flag at 9 am. He paid deep homage to the freedom fighters of the nation and commemorate their dedication and sacrifice while fighting for achieving freedom from the colonial power. He also took the guard-of-honour from police, military and para-military forces and NCC cadres in the parade.

In his speech, Keshab Mahanta, while throwing light on the heritage of the nation and the State, explained the contribution of the freedom fighters of Lakhimpur to the freedom movement. He also elaborated the developmental activities implemented by the governments in the State and at the Centre for the benefits of the public and nation’s wellbeing.

“The incumbent Government of Assam has been relentlessly working for the benefits and wellbeing of all since the government was formed. Building a secured Assam, developed Assam is the primary objective of the government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma and to achieve the goal, this government will leave no stone unturned. A new era of development was heralded in Assam under the leadership of CM Sarma at present and this journey of development will continue,” Keshab Mahanta said. He called upon the public to take part in the ‘Meri Mati Meri Desh’ campaign, which has been organized to earmark the culmination of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

In the same event, colourful cultural programmes with patriotic fervour were organized to celebrate the occasion. Moreover, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions. As parts of the Independence Day programmes, district administration accorded special felicitation to the freedom fighters and their family members. Moreover, light food items, fruits were distributed among the prisoners of the district jail and the inmate patients of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital. DC Sumit Sattawan, SP Ananda Mishra, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, Lakhimpur MP Manab Deka and a galaxy of academicians, prominent citizens were among those who were present in the event.

The Independence Day was also observed in all press clubs and press guilds of Lakhimpur. President Kumud Baruah hoisted the National Flag at North Lakhimpur Press Club in the presence of the Lakhimpur headquarter journalists. Bihpuriya Press Club, Narayanpur Press Club, Naoboicha Press Club, Bandardewa Press Club, Dhakuakhana Press Guild also observed the 77th Independence Day by organizing due programmes. 77th Independence Day celebrated at Lakhimpur Commerce College. The 77th Independence Day was also celebrated in Lakhimpur Commerce College. The National Flag was hoisted by the Principal, Dr Lohit Hazarika at 7.30 am. The flag was hoisted in presence of teachers, office staff, NCC Unit of the college and students’ union. The National Anthem was sung after the hoisting of the National Flag.
