7th biennial session of Dhemaji District Journalists' Association concludes

The 7th biennial session of the Dhemaji District Journalists’ Association (DDJA) concluded on Sunday.

LAKHIMPUR: The 7th biennial session of the Dhemaji District Journalists' Association (DDJA) concluded on Sunday. The event was hosted by Gogamukh Press Club with a day-long programme. The agenda of the event kick-started with the unfurling of flag by DDJA president Ashwini Duworah along with the unfurling of the flag of the Gogamukh, Machkhowa, Dhemaji, Silapothar and Jonai Press Clubs. Secretary Bhaskar Sabhapandit administered the swahid tarpan program while Gogamukh Police Station OC Manoranjan Saikia inaugurated the plantation drive.

In connection with the event, a commemoration programme was also organized to pay tribute to the recently demised journalists of Dhemaji Anirban B Gohain, Binod Singh, Tikendrajit Phukan, Tejendra Upadhyay and Ratan Pujari.

In the delegate meeting, the 15 member DDJA executive body was formed with Premananda Talukdar as president, Bhaskar Sabhapandit as vice-president, Jiban Konwar as general secretary, Saran Jime, Mintu Saikia and Hemchandra Bordeuri as assistant secretaries, Jitu Saikia as treasurer and Jayanta Borah as office secretary. The open session of the event commenced with Ashwini Duworah in the chair while Bhaskar Sabhapandit delivered the welcome address. Chief Executive Member of Mising Autonomous Council— Paramananda Chayengiya inaugurated the programme wherein general secretary of Assam Union of Working Journalists (AUWJ)— Tutumoni Phukan and organizing secretary Bhaskar Sarmah were present as guest of honour and observer. Both of them highlighted the activities of AUWJ and steps taken by the organization in order to ensure welfare and protect the judicious rights of the working journalists of the State. In the program, a number of newspaper hawkers, record holder poet Shristirani Taid, progressive farmer Girija Prasad Doley, kick-boxer Sabita Chetia, former DDJA president Purnakanta Sinte and Pabitra Hundique were accorded special felicitation.
