80 percent of Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR) inundated

The rising water of River Pach Noi and River Dhansiri has inundated more than 80 per cent area of Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR).

MANGALDAI: The rising water of River Pach Noi and River Dhansiri has inundated more than 80 percent area of Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONPTR).

A total of 31 anti-poaching camps inside the Park were inundated by flood water till Friday afternoon. In some cases, flood water rose up to 6 feet from ground level and more than 80 per cent of the Park area is at present under flood water. However, no loss of animals, including the one-horned rhinos and Royal Bengal Tigers, has been reported till date.

On the other hand, volunteers of Village Defence Organization and staff of the Park have rescued four hog deer which were swept away by the flood. Unfortunately, one hog deer later died. The staff of the Park has been continuing their patrolling duty wading through the waist deep water on foot. Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division Pradipta Barua has been supervising the flood situation in the Park
