A total of 8,36,651 electorates, including the service voters in the four LACs of Darrang district, are eagerly waiting for the ‘D-Day’ on April 1 to exercise their right to franchise in the second phase.

MANGALDAI: A total of 8,36,651 electorates, including the service voters in the four LACs of Darrang district, are eagerly waiting for the 'D-Day' on April 1 to exercise their right to franchise in the second phase.

In 65 Kalaigaon LAC, total number of electorates is 1,83,485 (90,095 female and 93,389 male), 66 Sipajhar LAC has a total number of 1,77,327 electorates (86,036 female and 91,285 male), there are 2,36,517 electorates in Mangaldai (SC) LAC (1,16,397 female and 1,20,118 male) while 68 Dalgaon LAC has the highest number of electorates with a total of 2,39,322 of which 4,09,659 are female and 4,26,977. Significantly, this election will witness 3,742 senior citizens above the age of 80 years in the district (1,023 in 65 Kalaigaon LAC, 663 in 66 Sipajhar LAC, 1,002 in 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC and 1,054 electorates in 68 Dalgaon LAC). The total number of electorates of Persons with Disability is 3,058 (480 in Kalaigaon LAC, 659 in Sipajhar LAC, 878 in Mangaldai LAC and 1,041 in Dalgaon LAC). Meanwhile, the district administration has taken up special measures for the senior electorates and Persons with Disability. Significantly, a total number of 4,464 D-voters (as on January 1, 2021) in the district will get the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights in this election. The number of D-voters in Kalaigaon LAC is 760, 502 in Sipajhar LAC, 857 in Mangaldai LAC and 1,041 in Dalgaon LAC.

In this election, there will be 1,065 main polling stations and 136 auxiliary polling stations in the district. Dalgaon LAC has the highest number of polling stations with 344 polling stations, including 67 auxiliary polling stations, while Mangaldai LAC has 292 polling stations and 43 auxiliary polling stations. Sipajhar LAC has the lowest number of auxiliary polling stations (7) and 251 main polling stations and Kalaigaon LAC has 19 auxiliary polling stations and 245 main polling stations.

Meanwhile, the District Election department, for the conduct of smooth, free and fair election, has formed all the cells headed by the Deputy Commissioner, District Development Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioners. The nomination cell will be headed by Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah, District Development Commissioner Subhalaxmi Deka, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad, Ramen Chandra Malakar and Additional Deputy Commissioner Vijay Bhaskar Reddy.

The poll notification for the four LACs will be issued on March 5 with the last date for filing of nomination papers on March 12 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on March 15 while the last date of withdrawal of the nomination papers has been fixed on March 17. Polling will be held on April 1.
