8th annual conference of UBPO begins with colourful programmes in Karbi Anglong district

LAKHIMPUR: The 8th annual conference of United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) kick-started with colourful programmes on Friday at Langhin Nwgwr in Karbi Anglong district. The three-day long extravaganza has been organized at Langhin Pamgaon Higher Secondary School playground under the auspices of the Karbi Anglong district unit of the organization.

In this connection, a press release issued by general secretary of the organization, Pitambar Brahma, stated that as many as 400 delegates from 22 districts of Assam, outside BTAD, and neighbouring States of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, have participated in the event.

According to the press release, the agenda of the event kick-started with a swachhta abhiyan which was inaugurated by Dokmoka Police Station OC Nilamoni Malakar at 7.30 am. It was followed by inauguration of main gate by Mojasing Ronghang, the chairman of Phulani Centre Municipal Board while social worker Moon Ingtipi inaugurated the Najendra Mussahary dining hall. On the other hand, Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr Premananda Mussahari inaugurated the Late Prabhat Basumatary cultural camp while Langhin Senior Secondary School Principal Nripen Chandra Baglary inaugurated the Late Sachin Basumatary delegates' camp. Then the Late Jaton Basumatary delegates' hall was inaugurated by PDCR Chairman Sangbijit Ingti Kathar.

At 10:30 am, Howraghat MLA Darsing Ronghang inaugurated the Late Kamaleshwar Basumatary pendal and main stage while Diphu MLA Bidyasing Inglang inaugurated the Late Sudesh Islary guest house at 11:00 am. It was followed by the inauguration of Late Bhupen Chandra Narzary trade fare by Amarsingh Tiso, the Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. After the registration of delegates and observers from 12:00 pm, Executive Member of Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Joykanta Boro inaugurated the Late Dr Biswajit Basumatary and Late Hamen Boro memorial sports competition at 12:30 pm. Then CWC meeting of the organization commenced from 2:00 pm. The delegates' sitting commenced from 5:00 pm and it was inaugurated by Chairman of BKWAC, Gambaru Mussahari. Late Shyamo Khakhlary cultural programme was organized at 6:00pm. It was inaugurated by Karbi cinema, actor, director-cum-producer Katharson Ingti. In the cultural event, artistes Failao Basumatari, Prabin Boro, Binita Boro, Jayashree Narzary, Bineswar Brahma presented cultural items.

The second day agenda of the event on Saturday will start with the unfurling of organizational flag by president Manoranjan Basumatary. It will be followed by homage paying programme to martyrs, inauguration of reception committee's souvenir Hajwari Jinjri by Sahitya Akademi awardee Ratneswar Narzary, Then special open meeting will be held from 11:00 am, wherein BKWAC Chief Executive Member Mihiniswar Basumatary, Assam Legislative Assembly speaker Biswajit Daimari, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Handloom & Textile Minister UG Brahma, ABSU president Dipen Boro, Bodo Sahitya Sabha secretary Hareswar Narzary, Nepal Republic Parliament MP Kumari Meche and many other dignitaries will be present. At 4:00 pm, a meet of all Bodo Frontal organizations will be held on 'Unity, existence, growth and development of Bodo in present context'. From 7:30 pm, the Late Aditya Basumatary memorial cultural programme will commence.
