9 coronavirus-care centres set up in Chirang

BONGAIGAON: With an aim of boosting medical infrastructure in the district, the Chirang district administration has established COVID Care Centres (CCCs) at nine different locations for quarantining the passengers coming from other States by train.

DIPRO Chirang, Gagan Narzary said that the district administration had prepared such centres at Kajalgaon High School, Dhaligaon High School, Chapaguri ME School, Baikhungaon Satipur ME Madrassa, UN Brahma Jr. College and UN Brahma College in Kajalgaon Sadar subdivision and in Bijni Civil subdivision at Bijni Sishu Kalyan High School, Zakir Hussain Public High School and Ambedkar Bhawan.

"With this facilities becoming functional, the district is now capable of giving quarantine facilities to over 750 people. Earlier, the district had only 135 institutional quarantine facilities," he said.

According to Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) of the health department, Assam, the district has arranged in these centres medical screening as well as collection of swab samples of all the non-symptomatic passengers coming back to Assam by train from various parts of the country. All train passengers to Assam with non-symptomatic conditions are first put in the Corona Care Centres and then they are asked to be tested for coronavirus and as such, if they are tested negative, they are allowed to go for home quarantine. The total quarantine period of all passengers is not less than 14 days. Narzary said that Deputy Commissioner of Chirang, Gautam Talukdar had instructed the officials engaged at Corona Care Centres to arrange for food, drinking water and other required facilities for these people. As on Monday, as many as 65 train passengers came from other States and were put in these Corona Care Centres in the district.
