BOKAJAN: In a major development, the Dillai police have seized a huge quantity of psychopathic Yaba tabs from a Guwahati-bound truck along the Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong.
As per reports, based on specific information, the Dillai police set up a naka check over NH-36 and subsequently recovered 97,000 Yaba tablets from a Guwahati-bound truck bearing registration number MN 01 7632 on Saturday morning.
The approximate face value of the seized drugs is reportedly over Rs 4 crore in the international black market. Police have arrested the driver, Ramikanta Singh and another person, Biken Singh in this connection. Both are residents of Manipur.
"Actually if you search on Wikipedia, you will see that these Yaba tablets were earlier fed to horses in Myanmar so that they could carry extra load. But, recently its popularity increased threefold among humans and there has been a huge demand for this stimulant in India. This particular stimulant costs around Rs 40 in Nagoan, Rs 100-150 in Guwahati and Rs 1000 per tab once it reaches Goa," Bokajan SDPO John Das said.
