Guwahati: A student of Regional Dental College, Guwahati has tested positive.
The lady student is among the four from the dental college who were on COVID-19 duty at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). She had joined COVID-19 duty on April 25.
The dental college and its hostels are situated within the premises of GMCH.
The hostel has a capacity for 200 students but only 40 students are staying at the hostel presently. Swab tests of all these 40 students are being done.
District Administration has declared the hostel where the lady student was staying, as containment zone.
This new case has taken the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam to 59. Assam now has 24 active cases.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Samra met the lady student at 12.30 am and assured her best care. He also requested all other students not to panic.
The hostels No 1 and No 5 of GMCH, the residential colony of Dr B Barooah Cancer Institute and Ameya Nagar, a locality of the city has already been declared containment zones after three people from these locations of the city were found COVID-19 positive. One is a doctor of GMCH.
