Hema Prabha Choudhury, a pious lady of Graham Bazaar of Dibrugarh town with a very soft heart and mind and great simplicity in nature is no more. She has left for the heavenly abode on March 6 at the age of 80 years.

Born to the family of Ratanmal Kalita and Parbati Prabha Kalita of North Guwahati on May 18, 1942 as the eldest daughter among six children, she completed her primary and higher education from Assam Oil Division High school at Digboi as her father was serving in Oil India Limited. Her father, on observing her interest in higher education, admitted her to Handique College in Guwahati and completing her Intermediate of Arts (IA) examination, she got her admission in Cotton College. In the matriculation examination, she secured letter marks in Sanskrit and in Mathematics.

With her ardent desire to get involved in the humble service of teaching, late Hema Prabha Choudhury rendered her service as a teacher from 1963 to 1973. But as she tied the nuptial knot with Dwipendra Narayan Choudhury, Managing Director of Ganga Ram Choudhury and Law Company of Dibrugarh on October 11, 1972, she resigned from her job and concentrated on household affairs as an ideal housewife. This humble housewife spent her days with a no complaining attitude with her considerate mind who also loved to travel. In her last days, a deep shock and pain shattered and devastated this pious lady with the demise of her husband on August 30, 2021.

On this day of 'Adya Shraddha,' I offer my hearty homage to this octogenarian lady and pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul. I also convey my deepest condolence to her only son Koushik Choudhury and daughter-in-law Dimpy Choudhury. "Om Shanti"
