Death of my grandfather Prabhat Chandra Medhi is an irreparable loss for our family. By profession, he was the chief engineer of Assam State Electricity Board. In 1968, he completed his engineering and in search of a job, ended up practising teaching at Ulubari Higher Secondary School without even charging a single penny from the pupils. His first job was, however, at Shillong in 1972.
Even though my grandfather retired on December 31, 2004, he didn't receive his due pension for a quite long time. Unfortunately he got retired at December 31, 2004 where Assam government back then stopped providing anple amount of pension. But he was not frustrated and devoted his retirement life in constructive work for the society.
Apart from his professional life, he was a very kind-hearted and amiable person who use to treat children as his own. One of the remarkable qualities of our grandfather was that, he was a true devotee of Krishnaguru Mahapravu Sewa Ashram where he used to spend hours and hours with the devotees acquiring knowledge and wisdom to discuss the spiritual matters. He was involved in various welfare activities through the Krishnaguru Ashram.
He survived and lived his days during the Bodo tribal riots of 1986 and experienced many pleasant and unpleasant days. But he overcame those days as victorious. Last but not the least he was my role model and a source of inspiration to look ahead in life. May his soul rest in peace. Jai Krishnaguru.
