A tribute to Pranjal Saikia, a young author, sportsman and swimmer

Pranjal Saikia, a young author, sportsman and swimmer and a resident of Rupnagar, Guwahati suddenly left for his heavenly abode on June 9 due to heart failure. Though he was taken to the hospital, he was declared dead.

Pranjal Saikia was born in the family of Ram Saikia and Ikon Saikia. He had his education at Collegiate HS, later in Cotton College and finally in JB Law College, Guwahati. From his college life he had a keen interest in literature and won several prizes in literary competitions. He was equally competent in the field of sports and swimming and brought laurels to the institution. His famous book Rakhile monot ahibo kamot had given him entry in the field of literature and he got appreciation from the readers. Later, he engaged himself in writing articles and completed another book which is under print. Pranjal used to devote his time in writing stories and poems. He was associated with several literary organizations and contributed articles to different magazines. He was a voracious reader having a good collection of books in different languages. He was a man of simple and humble nature and closely associated with different swimming clubs. His sudden death cast a pale of gloom in the Rupnagar area and a large number of well wishers visited his house and paid tribute to his departed soul. He was only 32 and is survived by his parents, two sisters and brother. On the occasion of his adya sharddha, I pray for eternal peace of his soul.
