Ramadhar Lall, a senior lawyer, labour leader, social worker of Birubari, Guwahati died on January 21, 2022 at a private nursing home due to old age ailment. Late Lall was born on January 9, 1939, at Bihar and after graduation, he obtained LL.B Degree from Patna University. Thereafter he joined service under Controller of Defence Accounts. He was posted at Tezpur and after serving for a considerable period at Tezpur, he resigned from service and joined the legal profession and enrolled under Tezpur Bar Association and started practice at Tezpur Bar for about 10 years. Thereafter in 1980 he shifted to Guwahati and started his practice at Gauhati High Court.
Within a short span of time by dint of his merit, hard work and dedication he could prove his quality as a lawyer both in civil and criminal fields. He was an eloquent orator having sharp memory; he could instantly cite the decisions of Apex Court as well as Gauhati High Court. While at Tezpur, he contested Municipal Election. He was also associated with political parties, but as he could not match with the ideologies of the political parties he gave it up.
Late Lall played a pivotal role as a labour leader to protect the welfare of the industrial workers of Charduar Cotton Mill owned by Birla Group. He fought for the cause of each of the workmen and was successful in getting relief. He was also connected with several labour organizations of Tezpur and fought their case at the Industrial Tribunal and Gauhati High Court. He was given an ovation by the working class on "May Day" for his contribution for working class.
During emergency, he was booked under 'MISA' but the Gauhati High Court enlarged him by quashing the detention order. He was a man of rigid decision and never compromised with any injustice. Before starting practice in the lower judiciary he also learned Assamese and could write very good Assamese. His sudden death has left a void in the hearts of many poor and downtrodden litigants. He never minced his words. His death was condoled by different labour organizations and Gauhati High Court Bar Association. He was 84 at the time of death and survived by his wife and 3 sons. Today on the occasion of Adya Shraddha, I pay my homage to the departed soul. May his soul rest in peace.
