Tarun Gogoi was born on the11th of October, 1934 and brought up at Rongajan Tea Estate in the district of Jorhat. His father was Dr. Kamaleswar Gogoi and mother was Usha Gogoi.

Tarun Gogoi had his primary education at Rongajan Primary school.

He passed the Matriculation examination from the then Jorhat Govt Boys' High school and had taken graduation in Arts from J.B College, Jorhat. Subsequently, he completed his B.L. Degree from Guwahati University.

By virtue of his administrative dexterity and political maturity he became the Chief Minister, the Principal Executive Authority of the State for three consecutive terms besides holding various covetous positions in State and national politics. He was loved and respected by the people of all walks of life in the State and outside because of his amiable disposition and pleasing personality and popularity. This has symbolized his tremendous popularity among the people of Assam and Indian people. Personally, I used to hold him always in very high esteem.

He was an erudite politician, selfless social worker and forceful orator. By virtue of the qualities of his head and heart (which are not commonly found in others) he could endear himself to all sections of people throughout India.

An energetic man of unparalleled integrity with active habits and devotion to national duty, Tarun Gogoi could impress everybody he came across. For all these reasons among others, his sudden demise has ended a golden era in State and national politics.

Briefly speaking, he was one of the architects of modern Assam.

The flame of life of this dynamic and towering personality has thus come to an end on the 23rd of November, 2020 at 5:34 pm at the age of 86 years while he was undergoing Medical treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of GMCH. He left behind surviving his wife with one son and one daughter to fend for themselves.

The physical frame of this dynamic, daring and towering personality has perished. But he will remain immortal for his outstanding contribution to State and national politics and social activities and will remain imperishable and inspiring for the upcoming generation in future forever.

I pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed Soul.
