DOOMDOOMA: The All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) has termed the BJP government's Dhan Mela scheme as 'vote-bank politics'.
Making a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, it said that like the Congress, the BJP also indulged in making false promises to the Adivasis. In a press release, the Adivasi students' body stated that in an important executive meeting of its Tinsukia district committee held at Baghjan Club on Wednesday, several resolutions were adopted regarding its various demands and launching of agitation programmes.
Besides the demand for granting ST status to Adivasis , it demanded enhancement of wages of tea labourers to Rs 351, allotment of land patta to tea labourers and separate Directorate and Autonomous Council for the Adivasis.
The AASAA vehemently opposed the BJP government's Dhan Mela scheme as vote-bank politics and demanded to immediately stop such politically-motivated schemes. As per its agitation programme, its primary units would take steps to burn the effigies of the MLAs for not raising the demand for granting ST status to Adivasis. After that, on September 21 it would stage sit-in for two hours in front of the DC's office followed by blockade of national highways on September 29. In the month of October, sit-in would be staged by its Anchalik committees. Thereafter, mass mobilization at 16 places by its 16 Anchalik committees would be organized in support of the demands.
