LAKHIMPUR: Ranjeet Dass, the BJP State president, once again had to face AASU’s black flag in Lakhimpur on Saturday.
As a mark of protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, the activists of the Laluk regional unit of All Assam Students’Union (AASU) showed black flag at Laluk to the State BJP president who came to that place in order to take part in a Naoboicha LAC-level organizational meeting. By showing the black flag, the AASU activists demonstrated vehement opposition to the controversial Act.
On the other hand, police personnel prevented the AASU activists from staging their protest. The protesters were allegedly assaulted by the police personnel, even chasing them unto the Laluk AASU office while they were initiating the stir. The organization alleged that police had caused damage to the martyr’s yard of the Laluk AASU office during the development. Police detained Laluk regional AASU president-in-charge Debojit Saikia, Kherajkhat regional unit president Madhab Borah, Laluk unit education secretary Nituparna Oja and Laluk regional unit AJYCP secretary Monojit Hazarika. Lakhimpur AASU and AJYCP strongly condemned the incident of assaulting the activists while initiating democratic protest.
On the other hand, BJP State president took part in the organizational meeting which was organized at Laluk Gana Bhavan. In addition to him, State BJP general secretaries Pulok Gohain, Amiyo Kumar Bhuyan, Diplu Ranjan Sarmah, Lakhimpur BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, general secretary Shantanu Buragohain and BJP National Council member Rao Gojendra Singh also took part in the meeting.
