AASU announces ‘Barpeta Award’ for Akshay Kumar Mishra

BARPETA: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has announced the prestigious “Barpeta Award” for noted writer Akshay Kumar Mishra. This announcement was made by the Secretary of the Central Committee of AASU Krishnakanta Das.

Akshay Kumar Mishra is also a recipient of the Kalaguru Award and well as named the Siksharatna before being named for the Barpeta Award.

Krishnakanta Das, who is also the president of the Rongali Bihu organising committee, addressed the members of the press while making this announcement from the Barpeta Press Club on Wednesday.

The Barpeta unit of the All Assam Students’ Unit will be organising the twentieth edition of Rongali Bihu in Barpeta town from the 1st of Bohag in the next year. And the award will be handed over during the Bihu celebration, mentioned the organisers. The Barpeta Award will comprise a cash amount of Rs 10000, a traditional Cheleg Chadar, Gamocha and a Certificate commemorating the same.

Krisnakanta Das also informed that the Deputy Commissioner of the Barpeta District, Aayush Gard and Superintendent of Police for Barpeta Amitava Sinha will be handing over the award to Akshay Kumar Mishra on the first day of Bohag on behalf of AASU. The event will take place in the Barpeta Municipality playground. The daylong award function will also be complemented by Mukoli Bihu and Cultural Evening with presentations from various artists.

Other members from the Rongali Bihu Organising Committee who attended the event included Biraj Kumar Das, Kumar Deepak Das, Anjan Deori and Rahul Sutradhar.

Members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU) and All Rabha Women Council (ARWC) submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through the Kamrup district’s Guardian Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary at Bongaon Sports Club during his visit on the last Wednesday. In the memorandum, the organizations demanded justice for BSF constable Dhitashree Rabha who died under mysterious circumstances. The AASU, ARSU and ARWC demanded the Assam Government ask the West Bengal government to probe the incident.
