GOLAGHAT: The activists of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) of Golaghat district committee burnt the effigy of Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev on Sunday at Golaghat town protesting against his alleged comments over Padma Bhushan awardee and legendary Assamese litterateur late Syed Abdul Malik.

The activists shouted various slogans against Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev as well as the Assam government. Golaghat AASU demanded the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led Assam government to take action against the Hojai MLA for his alleged comments.

Notably, BJP leader Shiladitya Dev had triggered controversy by saying that Syed Abdul Malik, a notable writer of Assamese literature, was an 'Intellectual Jihadi'.

Golaghat AASU expressed sharp reaction to that and said Shiladitya Dev has lost his mental balance and should be kept in the mental hospital. They criticized the government that till date the Sarbananda Sonowal government has not taken any action against him. Golaghat AASU demanded immediate action against the MLA or they will stage a protest against the government.
