KOKRAJHAR: A day after the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and Kokrajhar district AASU expressed resentment on the row of mediums at Bodoland University (BU), a delegation of the central committee, AASU, led by Education Secretary of the union,

Bhabajit Bezbaruah met the Registrar of BU and discussed the medium row in BU.

It may be mentioned that the president of BSS, Dr. Surath Narzary, and Education Secretary of Kokrajhar district, AASU Amarjyoti Ray, expressed resentment on Thursday over the decision of the Academic Council meeting of BU to implement the instruction of the Department of Education, Government of Assam, to write the major and professional subjects in English in the UG examination in colleges under BU. The BSS and the AASU urged the BU authority not to confuse the students with the instruction but to clarify in which language they write in the examination. The AASU termed the move anti-student and demanded that Assamese should also be a medium to write in the UG programmes.

The AASU delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of BU in this regard.

Meanwhile, Registrar of BU, Dr. Subung Basumatary, said they did not take any unilateral decision against any language but followed the instruction of the Department of Education, Government of Assam. He said the students of UG will write in Assamese too in regular courses other than major and professional subjects, as per the directives of the State Education Department. He also said he would look into the matter and try to pursue it with the Education department.
