DOOMDOOMA: The effigies of the General Manager of North-east Frontier Railway (NF Railway) Ansul Gupta and of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Tinsukia Division, Bijoy Kumar Mishra were burnt by the activists of All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Doomdooma Regional Committee, near the railway level crossing gate, Doomdooma on Saturday for non-fulfilment of their demand for resumption of train service in between Makum to Dangri.

This formed an important part of the former historic Dibru-Sadiya Railway, the first-ever railway line of Assam established in 1881 by AR & T Coy. Ltd. They took up this programme as a part of their series of agitational programmes for restoration of rail service in between Dangri to Dibrugarh and for reopening of the six railway stations in between Makum to Dangri i.e. Barhapjan, Hansara, Doomdooma, Rupaisiding, Talap and Dangri that were closed down during gauge conversion work in the early part of this century and were not reopened even after running of the passenger train 55911Up/55912Dn from October 30, 2002. The students' body later submitted a memorandum to the Railway Minister through the Circle Officer, Ranonmoy Bharadwaj, Doomdooma Revenue Circle. If the train operation was not resumed for the convenience of the passengers of this route, then vigorous agitation would be launched, they warned.
