AASU forms human chain, demands scrapping of 'anti-farmers' bills

LAKHIMPUR: The members of the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) once again took to the streets on Monday demanding the immediate scrapping of Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill and Environmental Impact Assessment-2020 (EIA) Draft.

Opposing the three bills and the draft, the AASU activists of the district formed human chain in North Lakhimpur town from Sawhid Bhavan premises. Leading the protest programme, Lakhimpur AASU secretary Dhanmoni Dutta became vocal against the three bills reiterating the farmers' apprehensions regarding the issue. He also highlighted the demerits of the EIA Draft and demanded the Union Government to scrap the agriculture bills and the draft immediately.
