AASU opposes government’s move in Lakhimpur

AASU has slammed government for taking this move which is against the ‘spirit of National Education Policy- 2020 and demanded the same to withdraw the move at the earliest.

LAKHIMPUR: All Assam Students’ Union has strongly opposed the distribution of science and mathematics textbooks in English for the students of Class VI studying in vernacular-medium government school which has sparked a furore in the State at present. The premier students’ organization of the State has termed it ‘an adamant move’ on the part of the Government of Assam to destroy the Assamese, Bodo and all other vernacular-medium schools. AASU has slammed government for taking this move which is against the ‘spirit of National Education Policy- 2020 and demanded the same to withdraw the move at the earliest.

In support of the demand, the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization initiated a protest programme in North Lakhimpur town on Saturday. In this connection, the AASU members, led by Lakhimpur district president Simanta Neog and general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi, took out a protest rally covering the district headquarters. During the demonstration, the protesters shouted slogans to save vernacular medium schools. The organization demanded the government to work for the growth and flourishing of Assamese and other indigenous languages of the State.
