LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) celebrated Bohag Bihu by organizing Rongali Adarani programme on Thursday in a befitting manner like the previous years.
The programme was organized in the North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School playground in association with North Lakhimpur regional unit of AASU. The programme kick-started with the unfurling of AASU flag by North Lakhimpur unit president-in charge Piku Bordoloi and Bihu flag by Dr. Upen Dutta. Smriti tarpan event was administered by North Lakhimpur unit general secretary Punamjyoti Buragohain. Padma Shri Dr. Uddhav Kumar Bhorali unveiled Gajali, the wall-magazine of North Lakhimpur AASU. In his lecture, Dr. Bhorali expected that the AASU's responsibility towards the State and the community would remain the same in future too like the past. It was followed by a felicitation programme, wherein AASU accorded warm felicitation to a number of senior citizens, teachers, retired principals of several schools and colleges, former AASU leaders with Bihuwan and sought blessings from them
In connection with the programme, the traditional 'Koni Juj' competition was held. Moreover, staging of husori and mukoli Bihu was also organized. In the same programme, 10 participants out of the 500 participants who took part in the 14-day long Bihu dance workshop organized by North Lakhimpur AASU and Bihu Surakshya Samiti, were awarded by organizing a competition. The other participants were accorded certificates of participation. AASU central committee organizing secretary Pulok Borah and State executive member Dhannoni Dutta delivered lectures attending the programme which was held under the management of district general secretary-in charge Simanta Neog.
On the other hand, the Dhakuakhana regional unit of AASU also organized Swagatam Bohag in order to celebrate the Bihu. The programme began with unfurling of AASU flag by president Mriganka Dutta and Bihu flag by former district general secretary, Dharani Sarmah. General secretary Bedanta Hundique administered the smriti tarpan event. Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Gurnel Singh inaugurated the newly-constructed AASU office which was constructed with a package from MLA funds.
It was followed by a felicitation programme wherein writers Dr. Jitu Kumar Chamua, Jyoti Nilima Gogoi, and journalist Rajib Baruah were feted for bringing laurels to Dhakuakhana with their talents. Moreover, a host of prominent personalities of Dhakuakhana, including academicians Jagadish Gogoi, Prabodh Borgohain, Padma Borah Das and Kiran Chamua, were also feted in the same programme wherein prominent literary figure Nanda Chutia delivered lecture on Bihu traditions and culture attending as the invited guest. Several cultural groups presented husori, taka Bihu, mukoli Bihu, jeng Bihu in the programme which concluded with the lighting of lamp by district AASU executive member Ashok Baruah in the evening.
