LAKHIMPUR: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) took to the streets on Saturday with a massive protest programme against sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities.
In this regard, the activists of the North Lakhimpur regional unit of the organization, led by president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Buragohain, staged 'Bikshyobh' at Court Tiniali of North Lakhimpur town as per directive of the central committee of the organization.
Attending the protest programme, Lakhimpur district AASU general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta slammed the State Government and Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury for their comprehensive failure with regard to controlling the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities in the State which have severely affected the common and low-earning people.
North Lakhimpur regional unit AASU president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Burhagohain criticized Phani Bhusan Choudhury in strong terms for his 'lackadaisical and unmoved attitude' towards taking any step to control the day-by-day growing prices of the essential commodities and other items in the State. Terming the minister as 'incompetent', 'inefficient', they demanded him to take immediate step to provide relief to the common people, who have already been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic situation and lockdown. Otherwise, they demanded him to step down. While staging the protest, the AASU activists flayed the State Government and Phani Bhusan Choudhury by shouting various slogans.
