LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur unit of All Assam Students’ Union has expressed a strong reaction over the unabated encroachment in Assam land by some Arunachali people under the direct patronization of the Arunachal Pradesh State government in Assam-Arunachal Border area under Kakoi, Dollung and Ranga reserve forests belonging to Lakhimpur district. Notably, a detailed report on the sensitive issue was published in The Sentinel on March 12 of late.

Regarding the issue, the organization expressed vehement resentment over the alleged deaf and dumb attitude of the Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and the State government with regard to the resolve of the burning problem. Vehemently condemning this attitude of the Forest Minister and the State government, the activists of North Lakhimpur regional AASU unit burnt the effigy of Parimal Suklabaidya at Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town on Friday and demanded their initiatives to take a step against the aggressors. The organization also condemned those unabated encroaching activities of the Arunachali people in Assam land belonging to the district.

On the other hand, the organization alleged that the unexpected encroachment was going on under the shadow of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Lakhimpur. By staging the protest, the activists of the organization condemned the unmoved attitude of the DFO also and demanded his suspension on the ground of his failure to safeguard the forest lands from encroachers. The protesters rocked the environment by shouting various slogans against the Forest Minister and his department and the State government with regard to the issue.
