AASU Protests Skyrocketing Prices of Essential Commodities

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged protest against sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities, LPG and other petro-products.

LAKHIMPUR: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) took to the streets on Friday to stage protest against sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities, Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) and other petro-products.

In this regard, 22 regional bodies of the organization under Lakhimpur district unit, including North Lakhimpur, Telahi-Kamalaboria, Dhalpur, Simaluguri, Narayanpur, Bihpuriya, Kherajkhat, Harmoti, Laluk, Naoboicha, Boginadi, Chaoldhowa, Kadam and Dhakuakhana regional committees staged sit-in at the public places under their jurisdiction.

The activists of the North Lakhimpur regional unit of the organization, led by president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Buragohain, staged the protest near the Swahid Bedi in North Lakhimpur town.

Attending the protest programme, AASU State executive member Dhanmoni Dutta slammed the State Government and Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury for their comprehensive failure with regard to controlling the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities in the State which has severely affected the common and low-earning people. He said that incapability on the part of the State Government with regard to controlling the price hike was its extreme failure.

North Lakhimpur regional unit AASU president Pranjit Gogoi and general secretary Punamjyoti Burhagohain criticized Phani Bhusan Choudhury in strong terms for his 'incompetent and unmoved attitude' towards taking any step to control the day-by-day growing prices of essential commodities and other items in the State. They termed the minister as 'inefficient' and demanded him to take immediate steps to provide relief to the common people. In this regard, they called upon Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to wake up from slumber and to control the exorbitant prices of essential commodities. Otherwise, they threatened to intensify their agitation. The protesters displayed placards against price hike.

DEMOW: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Demow Regional Committee staged a protest in front of the office of AASU, Demow Regional Committee at College Road, Hari Pora Road in Demow on Friday in protest against sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities and the failure of the BJP-led State Government to control the price rise.
