JORHAT: Activists of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Jorhat district unit on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner's office here to protest against sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities and fuel, including LPG cylinders, in recent times.
The protesters, carrying placards and banner, shouted slogans against the BJP-led governments at the Centre and the State. State assistant general secretary of AASU, Jul Khound lambasted the governments at the Centre and State for completely failing to check the sharp increase of prices of essential goods and fuel prices at a time when people were hit hard financially due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
AASU threatened the government that they would resort to a stir on a regular basis if prices were not decreased soon.
The protesters later dispatched memoranda separately to the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister and the Chief Minister, urging them to take necessary steps immediately to bring down the prices of fuel and essential items.
