Guwahati:
Newly elected state executive committee of All Assam Student Union (AASU) on
Monday took Oath in Guwahati.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at Guwahati
University.
Members of Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Students Union
also took part in the event.
About 60 State executives have taken oath by taking
responsibilities for the student's body in the meeting.
Dipankar Kumar Nath is continuing his role as
President.
While Lurinjyoti Gogoi officially announced to quit the
student body Sankar Jyoti Baruah was elected as the General Secretary.
AASU adviser in Chief Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya has
decided to remain in the student body after cancelling his retirement plan.
Speaking to media AASU chief adviser Samujjal Kumar
Bhattacharya said, "Following the request of the delegates at Duliajan
conference, distinguished personalities of the State as well as various regional organizations, I have
expressed my consent to work as the chief advisor of AASU."
Earlier, on November 18-12 during the 17th session of the AASU at Duliajan in Dibrugarh, speculations were rife about Dr. Bhattacharjya's decision to take retirement from AASU.
He said," I will retire at Duliajan conference. Earlier
I wanted to take retirement from the student's body Moran and Dudhnoi
conferences too."
Outgoing general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said," For
certain period people join and take responsibilities in the student's body and
serve as a social worker which one should do, but at some point, we all should
give the chance to the next generation to do the same.
"The student body decided to give him farewell
officially on December 3, 2020," he said.
