Guwahati: Continuing its protest against the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP), the All Assam Student's Union (AASU) has once again threatened to protest against the construction.

The SLHP is being constructed by the Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

Speaking over the same, AASU general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah said that the Assam government is trying to complete the construction of the dam by taking advantage of the lockdown.

''Around 40 percent of the construction work has been completed during the lockdown,'' he added.

He further asserted that the state government has tried to do so by suppressing the public and also warned of carrying out a protest against the construction of dam.

AASU requested the public and different organisations of the state to protest against the same as the state government cannot ignore the expert committee's report which has said that the dam is being constructed in an unsuitable location and can have disastrous downstream effects apart from damaging the eco-system of the sour rounding areas.

In October last year, the student organisation had staged a statewide protest against the construction of the project.
