LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) will resorte to stir to demand for the immediate resolve of the sensitive Assam-Arunachal border dispute which has been harassing the people of Lakhimpur district living in the border area. In this connection, the organization will stage 'Bikhyobh' in North Lakhimpur town on May 28.

The organization has taken this decision as per resolution adopted in the executive body meeting held in its office at Swahid Bhavan, located in North Lakhimpur town. The meeting was held with president Simanta Neog in the chair under the management of general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi in the presence of AASU central committee organizing secretary Pulok Borah, executive member Dhanmoni Dutta, Lakhimpur district advisers Sanjib Konwar, Faridur Rahman etc. Through the same protest programme, the organization will reiterate its demand to repair the critically deplorable stretch of the National Highway-15 (NH-15) from Charaimoriya near North Lakhimpur town to Padumoni Aai Than of Boginadi area under Kadam Revenue Circle of the district.

Regarding the Assam-Arunachal border dispute, the Lakhimpur district AASU president and general secretary in a statement said, "The sensitive issue has been wreaking havoc among the residents of the border areas under Lakhimpur as well as other bordering districts of the State for a long time. Of late, it has been observed that the government of the state of Arunachal Pradesh has been constructing the road from Kimin to Doimukh by encroaching upon the land of Assam. At present, the government of the neighbouring State has been encroaching upon the land of Assam by destroying the forest lands and issuing threats with firearms to the Assamese people of the border areas. It has also come to our notice that the Police Department of the neighbouring State has launched an operation against some innocent youths of our State living in the border areas by filing false charges against them. In this regard, no initiative on the part of the Lakhimpur district administration is a matter of serious concern. We demand that the Chief Minister of Assam should take steps to ensure withdrawal of the cases on false charges against the victim youths."
