SARUPATHAR: The body of Iftikhar Ahmed, a cattle trader from Bajalbari village in Sarupathar, who had been missing since August 13, was recovered from a ditch of Bhagawan Tea Garden in Barpathar under Golaghat district.
A person from Pabhojan village of Barpathar had called up Iftikhar regarding selling some cattle. Iftikhar was then abducted by miscreants and Rs 1 lakh was demanded from his family for his release. The victim's family member lodged a complaint at Barpathar police station vide case no. 80/20 under section 365 IPC regarding Iftikhar Ahmed's abduction as soon as they received a phone call from the miscreants.
However, on Monday evening, the members of AAMSU and ANLA, with the help of the local public, jointly conducted an operation and detained three accused from the Chainpur area of the Assam-Nagaland border in Uriamghat and handed them over to the Barpathar police. The Barpathar police, led by Golaghat Superintendent of Police Surjeet Singh, started the investigation by taking all three of them to the spot where the body of Iftikhar Ahmed was dumped.
Two more accused were arrested on Tuesday. All the accused have been identified as Hirak Kormokar, son of Dewnath Karmokar; Ananta Tanti, son of Bormonath Tanti; Bikash Tanti, son of Loknath Tanti; Jitan Urang, son of Gobin Urang; and Sanju Mahananda, son of Nakul Mahananda. Another case has also been registered vide case no. 80/20 under section 302 IPC for murder and all the five accused were produced before the district court of Golaghat on Tuesday. The main accused, Hem Baruah is absconding.
