TEZPUR: The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) Sonitpur and Biswanath district committees along with the common people on Thursday accorded warm welcome to the commission formed for amicable settlement of issues rising outside the BTR.
In pursuance of clauses 3.1 of the memorandum of settlement (MOS) signed on 27.1.2020 by the Government of India, Assam Government, ABSU and NDFB, the Governor constituted a commission under paragraph 14 of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India taking PP Verma, retired IAS officer, as chairman, Rajesh Prasad, BTC administrator, Jayanta Basumatary, vice-president of ABSU, and Dalim Bayon, convener of Udalgiri chapter of Red Cross Society, as members for the alteration of the area of BTAD. The commission will look into the issue of inclusion and exclusion of areas into the BTR.
Two commission members, Jayanta Basumatary, vice-president of ABSU, and Dalim Bayon, convener of Udalgiri chapter of Red Cross Society, accompanied ABSU adviser Khwngkhra Swargiary and other central executives like Ratendra Daimary, Khwrwmdaw Wary, Abit Narzary Narzary, Rajesh Boro and Birdaw Basumatary and held a series of public meetings at Gohpur (Barpukhuri) under Biswanath district, Rangapara, Silikhabari and Batachipur areas in Sonitpur district wherein they interacted with the people.
In Silikhabari area under Thelamara PS, the team was welcomed and felicitated by several tribal organizations, including Thelamara, West Tezpur, Mismari, and Dherkiajuli unit ABSU, Sonitpur Bor Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur District Tribal Shamngha, Naharbari, Gormara and Bargaon Primary Boro Sahitya Sabha, Bargaon Unit Tribal Shangha, Sonitpur District Rabha Students' Union and Thelamara Bathow Gowthum with aronai and flower bouquet.
Addressing the gathering, member of the commission, Dalim Bayon said that the BTR accord was ahistorical treaty which had been able to bring a permanent peaceful solution to the long-pending issues of Boros and other tribal people, thereby fulfilling the hope and aspirations of all people living in and outside the BTR.
"Under the direction of the Governor, the government will issue relevant guidelines to include Boro villages in the BTR and we will try to resolve the grievances of the people," he said, adding that overall development would be enjoyed by people attached to BTR.
Another member of the commission, ABSU vice-president Jayanta Basumatary said that many contiguous tribal and Bodo villages were left out in the last two accords, causing grievance among the people of these areas. "However, BTR will fulfil the hopes and aspirations of these people as per the clauses mentioned in the BTR accord," he said.
