ABSU stages protest in support of their demands in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Friday staged a two-hour sit-in in front of Bodoland University (BU) in Kokrajhar demanding the appointment of the regular registrar, the expulsion of vice-chancellor and solutions to various shortcomings in the university. The demands of the students' union included appointment of regular registrar, expulsion of existing vice chancellor Prof Laishram Ladu Singh for his alleged dictatorship. Hundreds of students, members of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and other organizations holding banners, placards participated in the protest programme.

The president of ABSU Dipen Boro, general secretary Khanindra Basumatary also joined the protest. ABSU president Dipen Boro demanded early formation of a university court meeting. He also demanded solution of problems of BU at the earliest. The union sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma demanding a solution of the problems.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro on Saturday said the matter of Bodoland University was serious and unfortunate. He said he will pursue the matter with the government of Assam and will discuss it with the Governor of Assam who is the chancellor of the BU.
