ABSU threatens to start indefinite sit-in from August in Kokrajhar

As there has been no initiative from the government against the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh for his alleged corruption and favouritism in running the university

KOKRAJHAR: As there has been no initiative from the government against the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University, Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh for his alleged corruption and favouritism in running the university, the ABSU has decided to start the indefinite sit-in from August 1if the government fails to take appropriate action.

Talking to reporters, the president of the ABSU, Dipen Boro said that neither the government of Assam nor the Governor and Chancellor of BU had taken action against Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh, Vice Chancellor of BU, who is on pre-arrest bail. He said Singh had been involved in massive corruption of construction of market shed, drainage system, gardening inside the Bodoland University where none of the construction works are visible in the university although funds have been released.

He also said Singh was on anticipatory bail after the Directorate of Anti-Corruption and CM’s Special Vigilance Cell vide case no 1/2022 IPC U/S-120 (B)/120 B/420/409 IPC R/W Sec. 13 (a) 13 (2) of PC Act, 1988. He further said Singh had been playing with the future of students of over 50 colleges under Bodoland University. “We cannot allow the future of our students of BTC region to be jeopardized because they will build the nation tomorrow. We want quality education for the students of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Bodoland University is the only premier higher educational institution from which our students can have a better future,” he said, adding that the ABSU would not tolerate corruption and favouritism in the university.

Boro said that VC Singh should not be allowed to function the BU with pre-arrest bail. He said Singh came to his office chamber on July 20 and took away some crucial official files for reasons only known to him. He also said that Singh on Saturday called the District Commissioner and SP of Kokrajhar, complaining that the ABSU had prevented him from running the university and sought protection. Boro said that the ABSU would start indefinite protest programme from August 1 in BU where hundreds of ABSU activists will join the protest, if the government fails to take action before this specific period.
