KOKRAJHAR: As per the decision of the executive meeting of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on April 12, the ABSU declared three hours dharna on May 8 at every district headquarters of Assam, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to demand village notification of the Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) administered area, constituency formation, conduct of election and increase of fund for the council for the 2023-24 financial year for speedy development of the Bodo people in Assam.
The union appealed to the Government of Assam and Government of India to implement clause 5.1 of the MoS of the BTR Accord in letter and spirit signed on January 27, 2020.
The general secretary of the ABSU, Khanindra Basumatary said that three years had elapsed since the formation of BKWAC without election and delimitation of constituencies. He also said the union demanded upgradation to a full-fledged council and to fulfil the aspirations of the Bodo people outside the Sixth Schedule area in Assam.
