TINSUKIA: A road mishap led to the demise of a school teacher on in the Doomdooma region of the state of Assam. The accident took place in a locality called ‘8 number’ at around 11 PM on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as one Pankaj Bhattacharjya who was serving as the Head Master of the Badalabeta Tea Garden Primary School. He was returning home from a marriage ceremony on his two-wheeler when the incident took place.
According to local reports, the victim lost control and crashed into a pile of sand kept for the construction of a drain by the local municipality. He was seriously injured and lost his life at the spot of the accident.
Late Pankaj Bhattacharjya was also an active member of the Assam Tea Workers Association and used to be associated with several social activities in the region. His death left the entire region in a state of sadness.
In another part of the state, a huge fire that broke out in a residential area in the Karimganj district of Assam completely gutted a total of 10 houses, reducing them to ashes. The blaze reportedly took place in the Patel Nagar area of South Karimganj in the Karimganj district of Barak Valley in Assam on Wednesday night. Police suspect arson to be the reason behind the massive fire, even though the exact cause that started it is yet to be determined, sources informed. Fire tenders rushed to the spot from the nearest depot when informed of the fire incident and were able to successfully douse the blazing fire before it could spread to nearby houses, thus averting a major disaster. According to the sources, property and goods worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire.
