TINSUKIA,: At the initiative of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) Panitola branch, a joint workers' convention comprising of central trade unions and employees' federation will be held at ACMS office Subachani Road in Tinsukia on November 8 to discuss various issues like price hike in essential commodities, including petroleum products, and minimum wage for tea plantation workers.

Raju Sahu, vice-president of ACMS and former Chabua MLA, in a press release stated that the BJP-led NDA government after assuming power had adopted anti-labour policies by amending Labour Act which brought misery for commoners and workers in particular. It curtailed all the rights and privileges of the working class and even denied minimum wage of Rs 351 for tea plantation workers, Sahu stated.

In order to discuss these issues under a common platform, representatives from INTUC, AITUC, HMS,CITU, Insurance Employees' Society, Bank Employees' Federation, SBI Staff Association and BSNL Employees' Union will participate in the deliberation, stated the release, urging all to raise their voices against the 'oppressive' attitude of the ruling government.
