Actor Adil Hussain Awarded Honorary Doctorate from KK Handiqui Open University

Hussain was conferred with an honorary Ph.D. (Honoris Causa) degree for his contributions to art by the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU).

GUWAHATI: Internationally acclaimed actor Adil Hussain was today conferred with an honorary Ph.D. (Honoris Causa) degree for his contributions to art by the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU).

The 57-year-old actor from Assam was awarded the degree on the occasion of the 4th convocation of the university held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakhsetra in Guwahati on 21st March 2021. Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi will preside over the function.

Expressing gratitude to the KKHSOU, Hussain in a video shared a word of encouragement and inspiration for the people of Assam.

Earlier, in a tweet, he stated, "Deeply Humbled by this recognition by my own State University! This would have made my father very happy as well. Thank you KKHSOU."

The versatile actor who has starred in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian and French films comes from Goalpara in Assam. He was seen last in Prakash Jha's drama Pareeksha on ZEE5. Last year the actor made it to the Forbes' list of Best Performances of the Year. Apart from this he was also honored with the Best Actor Award at the IndoGerman Filmweek held in Europe for his stellar performances in the films 'Pareeksha' and 'Nirvana Inn The Film', both of which were screened during the festival.

Hussain, who has earned acclaim for essaying a series of thought-provoking characters throughout his film career, has won a number of regional, national, and international awards. The actor is a recipient of the National Film Award- Special Jury Award for his 2017 movie "Hotel Salvation" an Amanda Award for Best Actor in 2018 movie "What Will People Say." He has also starred in a number of Hollywood blockbusters, including the mega-hit 'Life of Pi' based on the book by Yann Martel.

The KKHSOU honoured four stalwarts of Assam with the Honorary degrees. Apart from Hussain, the other awardees include- former Professor of Gauhati University Prof. Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami will be conferred the D. Litt (Honoris Causa).
