KERALA: An Afghan national, who was arrested by police in Kerala in July this year, was found in possession of an Aadhar card and other documents procured from Assam. A media report has revealed this on Sunday.

As per reports, the Afghan national identified as Abbas Khan alias Idgul was arrested in Kerala on July 21 this year. Previous reports said Abbas was working at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) using false documents.

A media report on Sunday said Abbas Khan alias Idgul, a native of Afghanistan, used an Aadhaar card where his address shows that he is from Assam.

According to the earlier version of Kerala police, the Afghan national had entered India via Nepal and forged his identity documents to get a job at the Cochin Shipyard. However, the latest media report said that he lived in Assam where he obtained his false documents and later went to Kochi using the forged documents including school certificates. Police sources said his relatives also used to work at the Cochin Shipyard.

It has been reported that he entered Assam in the year 2019 using a medical visa and the visa had validity for only a period of three months. But even after the expiry of his visa, he did not return back to his country. He then somehow managed an Aadhar card using the fake address of Assam. The forged Aadhar card has been seized by Kochi police from the Afghan, who has claimed that his father is an Afghan national but his mother is from Assam.

It may be mentioned that Afghanistan has been in the media spotlight ever since it has been captured by the Taliban. Fourteen people were arrested in Assam recently for social media posts allegedly supporting the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
