Baghjan (Tinsukia): The flame atop the Baghjan Well No 5 in Baghjan, Assam has been doused after 172 days of the disastrous blowout.

The latest technique brought by Oil India Limited, the Snubbing Unit reached Baghjan from Canada on November 5. The snubbing unit is brought to douse the fire that has been raging since May 27. The Baghjan Well No 5 caught fire on June 9. Along with the unit, a team of five-member experts have also come from Canada's Calgary to douse the fire.

Prior to that, various other techniques have been used to tame the fire. However, they were not successful. The company hired experts and brought technology from around the world, but their efforts went in vain. Earlier in October, OIL spokesperson, Tridiv Hazarika said that the fire will be completely doused by the mid of November.

In the process of dousing the fire, three people have already lost their lives, including two firefighters and one electrical engineer. A lot of families have been displaced due to the Baghjan blaze. Affected families are still staging protests against OIL. Social media has been flooded with videos and photographs of the Baghjan blaze. The blowout has affected the flora and fauna severely.
