TINSUKIA: The Makum Regional Students' Union (MRSU) along with 7 other organisations has announced non-stop oil blockade programme against Oil India Limited (OIL) from August 31 as both OIL and Tinsukia district administration did not take any initiative for implementation of their demands submitted on July 27 and July 28.

In a joint press release issued by MRSU, AJYCP, All Moran Students' Union, ATTSA, Ahom Moran Sabha, Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Manch, Khilongia Suraksha Bahini and Tai Asom Yuba Parishad stated that the OIL and Tinsukia administration had allegedly halted all CSR-related developmental works in Tinsukia district and greater Makum area even as the OIL had been carrying out exploration activities in areas like Hapjan, Mamononi, Dhulijan, Dimaruholla, Barkuri, Hebeda, Langkashi, Bojalani, Nogajan, Hukani and Longsowal.

Criticizing repressive attitude of OIL and Tinsukia district administration, the organisations stated that they had jointly submitted memorandum separately to the OIL and district administration on July 27 and July 28 respectively highlighting the grievances like employment priority to youths in oil operational areas, stoppage of contractual employment in technical and non-technical jobs instead employment on permanent basis, enhancement of land procurement value, publication of list of newly registered firms besides other issues.

After OIL and administration failed to address these issues, the organisations based on the resolution adopted on August 22, decided to resort oil blockade programme effective from August 31, stated the press release.
