JAMUGURIHAT: The agri-farm of Samannay SHG located at Chowkighat, to the south-west part of Jamugurihat, was allegedly burnt into ashes by some unidentified miscreants in broad daylight on Thursday.

A total of 52 self-help groups were handed over the government land as per contract for agri-farming after freeing the encroached land from the clutches of encroachers by the Sonitpur district administration last year. Local unemployed youths started agri-farming after the land was transferred to their respective self-help groups. But many times the crops were allegedly destroyed by miscreants.

According to information, some miscreants allegedly set ablaze the agri-farm of Samannay SHG and ran away. Some youths working in the field saw the incident and informed Jamuguri police immediately. The police team reached the site and investigation is on.

Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, who reached the incident site later, said, "Attacks on indigenous farmers will not be tolerated. Strict legal action will be taken against those involved."
