KOKRAJHAR/BONGAIGAON: The district agriculture department, Chirang, has come up with an initiative to help those farmers who lose their paddy seedlings due to the ravages of flood during the summer season. In view of this, the department started sowing paddy seeds under State Owned Priority Development (state) programme at its Kashikotra Seed Farm on Friday.
This initiative was ceremonially inaugurated by Dibakar Nath, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and in-charge Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Bijni, by sowing Bahadur Sahab-1 paddy seeds in the presence of BTC MCLA Madhab Chandra Chetry, District Agriculture Officer Amritlal Narzary, other officials of agriculture department and progressive farmers of the district.
In his inaugural speech, ADC Dibakar Nath asked the district agriculture department to cultivate other crops also at Kashikotra Seed Farm so as to help the needy farmers during the distress period.
On the occasion, District Agriculture Officer Amritlal Narzary informed that in the current year, they had decided to sow paddy seeds in 20 hectares of land at Kashikotra Seed Farm, in 5 hectares of land at Kajalgaon Krishi Vigyan Kendra and in 26 hectares of land under Bengtal and Bijni Extension Officer in the district with an aim of extending help to the flood-affected helpless people.
