Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) in Assam Arrested for Taking Bribe from Farmers

The ADO was taking the bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the farmers for issuing certificates for selling paddy.

GUWAHATI: At a time when the State Government talks about zero tolerance against corruption, a Kharupetia Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) Jyotirekha Das has been arrested for allegedly taking bribes from the farmers of the region.

According to reports, the officer was arrested after being caught red-handed while taking a bribe during an operation launched by Mangaldoi Anti-Corruption Branch.

The ADO was taking the bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the farmers for issuing certificates for selling paddy.

Further, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam said she was also accused in the Assam Public Service Service Commission (APSC) recruitment scam.

A case (no. 159/ 2017) was registered at Bhangagarh police station in Guwahati against Jyoti Rekha Das for her alleged involvement in the APSC recruitment scam and a charge-sheet was filed in connection with the case.

"The arrested public servant Smti Jyoti Rekha Das is an accused in Bhangagarh PS Case no. 159/ 2017 which is registered in connection with recruitment scam in APSC. Chargesheet has been submitted against her in the above-mentioned case," Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam added.

On the other hand, a lot Mandal of Demow Circle Office has been caught taking bribes from people.

According to sources, the incident came to light on Friday. There were allegations that the lot Mandal, Naren Phukan used to take bribes and do work in Demow Circle Office. He was caught taking bribes from people on video. Phukan, however, denied these allegations before media persons.

Phyllis Hrangchal, Demow Circle Officer, said that she would inquire into the incident. She added that she was still trying to identify the people in the video clip.
