Guwahati: Moments after the results of the Assam 12th board exams were announced on Thursday, June 25, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal greeted the candidates and wished them luck for the "journey ahead."
"Best wishes to all my young friends who have successfully passed the Assam HS Examinations 2020 for your journey ahead", Sonowal wrote in a tweet, also thanking the parents and teachers who invested time in helping their students for performing well in the examination.
At the same time, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended his heartiest wishes to the candidates who passed, while at the same time urging ones who did not make the cut not to feel disheartened. "Heartiest congratulations to all those who have passed in Assam 12th Board examination 2020. As you all enter a new phase in life, I wish you all a bright future ahead For those who have not passed, don't get disheartened and try again with all new spirit", the Minister tweeted.
It can be argued that this year, the Assam Education board has much to cheer for, as there has been a significant rise in the overall pass percentages in all the streams -- Arts, Science, and Commerce.
It needs mention here that this year, the AHSEC conducted the exams from February 12 to March 14. The exams were conducted at 772 exam centres with 2.35 lakh students appearing in humanities, science, commerce, and vocational studies streams. In comparison, last year, around 2.2 lakh candidates had appeared for the AHSEC class 12th exams.
While 1,75,175 students appeared in the Arts stream, 40,588 appeared in Science, and 18,178 appeared in the Commerce Stream. The papers were evaluated in 48 evaluation zones.
This year, 78.28% (or 1,31,794 out of 1,68,367) of the candidates passed out from the Arts stream, which is a significant improvement from last year's pass percentage marks of 75.14. While 19,850 candidates passed with first division marks, 44,191 candidates passed with the second division, and 67,753 candidates passed in the third division.
The pass percentage of Commerce students this year is 88.18%. A grand total of 17,713 candidates across Assam appeared for the exam, out of which 15,619 candidates cleared it. Out of those, 3,870 candidates got first division marks, 5,415 candidates second division, and 6,334 candidates third division marks.
The pass percentage in Science was also similar, as 88.06% of the appeared candidates (39,574) managed to clear the exam. While 16,928 candidates got first division, 14,747 candidates got second division, and 3,172 got third division marks.
