LAKHIMPUR: Voicing against the implementation of “National Education Policy (NEP)-2020”, the Lakhimpur district unit of All India Democratic Student Organization (AIDSO) once again took to the streets in North Lakhimpur town with a strong protest programme. AIDSO has been fighting against NEP-2020 since the day it was announced by the Central government during the times of COVID-19 as the implementation of the policy will lead to a gradual worsening of the education system.
On Saturday, the members of the Lakhimpur district unit of the AIDSO demonstrated ‘Bikshobh’ in front of Lakhimpur Commerce College as a part of the week-long stir initiated by the State Committee of the organization from September 20 to September 26. By initiating the demonstration, the organization demanded that the alleged privatization and commercialization of education system in India must be stopped. Students from various schools and colleges took part in the protest programme. They rented the air by sloganeering to scrap of the NEP-2020, not to deprive the students belonging to poor family of right to education, to appoint teachers in the vacant posts of the schools and colleges, not to close 11,368 schools in the name of amalgamation. The protesters further held a protest meeting during the demonstration wherein AIDSO Lakhimpur district president Junmoni Miri, secretary Bhaiti Chunkrang called upon the students to intensify the movement.”
