Air Force Station Mohanbari conducts media orientation

DIBRUGARH: The Air Force Station, Mohanbari, Dibrugarh under Eastern Air Command of Indian Air Force conducted a media orientation for the media on Tuesday. Group Captain Prashant Chavan, the Station Commander of Air Force Station Mohanbari, welcomed the media. Air Commodore Subroto Kundu, Air -II who is in charge of the transport and helicopter operations under the Eastern Air Command touched upon the importance of media and its role as a force multiplier during his speech.

During the capsule, a presentation on the Indian Air Force encompassing its history, the inception of Air Force Station Mohanbari, glimpses into humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations of IAF and the station in particular, a touch upon Atma Nirbharata in the service and the efforts of IAF in Nation Building was shown.

The IAF inventory of modern platforms as well as state of the art weapon systems, sensors and networks make it a dominant air power entity. The objective of the interaction was to give an insight into IAF operations, especially in Northeast India.

As stated by the IAF authority, the Indian Armed Forces are committed to develop a relationship of mutual understanding and cooperation with the media at all levels of operations. Towards this, the Indian Air Force is conducting a series of media orientation capsules Pan India. The media remains a force multiplier, in projecting the efforts of Armed Forces in various aspects of nation building.

It is very important that the military and the media understand and acknowledge each other’s way of functioning in order to project the correct perspective to our countrymen and world at large. In an effort to connect better, this media orientation capsule was planned, stated the IAF officials.

The media persons were given a brief historical perspective of the IAF and insight into various operational activities covering flying operation. The role and responsibilities of various Air Force bases under Eastern Air Command especially Air Force Station Mohanbari was then explained.

IAF’s imbibing of modern systems was also touched upon. The impetus to ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ was projected through capabilities acquired / developed by adopting indigenization efforts like Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) , Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) as well as various Air Defence (AD) and communication systems IAF’s involvement in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief missions in response to various calamities / crises in general and in North East India in particular were elaborated upon.

This was followed by a static display of the assets of the base. The event aimed at creating awareness, building understanding and enhancing rapport with the media.
